Moving is one of the most logistically complex things most people ever do. This week-by-week checklist keeps you on track from 8 weeks out through possession day — so nothing falls through the cracks.

Get 3 quotes from moving companies — book early, especially for May/June moves
Calgary's peak moving season is May–August. Movers book up 6–8 weeks in advance.
Decide what to keep, sell, donate, and discard — start decluttering now
Order packing supplies — boxes, tape, bubble wrap, markers
Arrange a storage unit if needed for excess furniture during staging
Notify school(s) of upcoming move and request records transfer
Begin sorting items for donation or sale — host a garage sale if time permits

Contact Service Alberta — update driver's licence and vehicle registration address
Contact CRA — update your address for tax purposes
Start packing non-essential rooms and items (basement storage, off-season items, books)
Request medical and dental records for transfer to new providers
Arrange pet or child care for moving day

Contact ATCO Gas — transfer or cancel gas service at current home
Schedule to end service the day after possession, not on possession day.
Contact ENMAX or your electricity provider — transfer service to new address
Contact internet/TV provider — book installation at new home around possession date
Notify bank and financial institutions of address change
Update subscriptions and online accounts (Amazon, insurance, etc.)
Confirm home insurance at new address is in place before possession
Continue packing — work room by room, label every box clearly with contents and destination room

Confirm moving company details — time, address, and number of movers
Pack all rooms except essentials needed for the final week
Arrange parking for moving truck at both current and new address
Confirm with your lawyer — closing funds, keys handover, and possession time
Defrost and clean refrigerator and freezer

Take meter readings (gas and electricity) and photograph them with a timestamp
Leave garage door openers, spare keys, and any included appliance manuals
Collect keys to new home from your lawyer

Locate the electrical panel, water shutoff valve, and furnace at new home
